Diego Anaya, Pablo Caviedes, Hermann Mejía, Moses Ros, and Carlos Torres Machado are the five artists who are part of the ArteLatAm collective, producing artwork in various disciplines. They are now presenting their first portfolio of prints, entitled Deriva / Adrift: The Migrant Experience. This linoleography edition of

twenty-five prints and three artist’s proofs, in 11’ x 8.5”, deals with a very significant topic all over the world.

The Migrant Experience is rooted in the history of the world. One can even say that it is rooted in humanity itself. Migration is not a one-way action, nor does it have only one reason for being or a specific beginning and end. The art experience is equally rooted in the world’s history. In the sentence above, the word ‘art’ can easily replace the word ‘migration’ and it would all still make perfect sense. Both terms are intertwined, and both have to do with origin and survival. Humanity has survived many natural disasters and wars. The suffering of people adrift, trying to escape violence, torture, famine, flooding, and more, frames situations like family separation and lives lost in the process of fleeing. Each artist created a tryptic with titles and images that reveal the five different aesthetic approaches.

Jovanny Dilone

He is a Venezuelan Systems Engineer, graduated from the Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV) in Caracas, Venezuela. With more than 6 years of experience in development and design of web pages, graphic design and digital marketing.
Founder and manager of the company Dilone System; which is currently in charge of making improvements, optimization and maintenance to the ArteLatAm website.

Sylvia Mata

President and Co-Founder

He has an MBA of ” Business Institute & quot; in Madrid, Spain, a degree in Economics and Statistics of the & quot; Central University of Ecuador ”, is president of the Education Council of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), National Commissioner for Women for LULAC Northeast United States. Founder of ArteLatAm, New York, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Coming soon in Brazil, Argentina and Panama. She has served as a senior executive for more than twenty years in Tourism Companies, Business and Public Institutions in Ecuador and the United States.

Handry Santana

Graphic designer

Handry Santana is Dominican. Degree in Marketing with the highest academic index of the promotion with the MAGNA CUM LAUDE honors at the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), where she also directed the Directorate of the Marketing career for three years and served as Professor. There he completed a master’s degree in Senior Public Management.

Santana has held various public positions and has represented the Dominican Republic, since childhood, internationally through short story contests, literature, … For 9 years together with a group of talented young people he produced, directed and choreographed the winning troupes of the first places representing the Valverde Province and imposing the quality and creativity of the people of the towns.

She has been recognized by the Dominican Senate in 2005 as one of the 50 most outstanding women in the country for her achievements and contributions to artistic, cultural and intellectual development and the National Youth Award in 1997 in the outstanding youth section of the country. In addition to other institutions that have valued his work, dedication and worthy representation.

She is currently a television producer, writer, screenwriter and emcee of relevant events.

She is a renowned international journalist, winner of 7 Emmy Awards from the United States Academy of TV. She has more than 14 years of experience as a journalist, investigative reporter and producer on television and radio.

It has been the image of newscasts. Special assignments reporter for UNIVISION, as well as executive producer and international correspondent for LA VOZ DE AMERICA in Washington, DC. In Spain, he worked as a national correspondent for the most prestigious national television channels such as Televisión Española and Antena 3 Noticias.

Certified in Personal, Executive and Business Coaching. Also internationally certified in Florida Global Business University. Experience as a university teacher in the undergraduate areas of the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), University of Education Continued (UAPA) and in the master’s area at the Pontifical University Catholic Mother and Teacher (PUCMM).

Begoña is a recognized international journalist awarded with 7 Emmy Awards from the Academy of the TV of the United States. She has more than 14 years of experience as a journalist, investigative reporter, and producer in television and radio. Begoña has been the face of the newscasts and reporter for special assignments for UNIVISION, as well as executive producer and international correspondent for LA VOZ DE AMERICA in Washington, DC. In Spain, she worked as a national correspondent for the most prestigious national TV channels such as Televisión Española and Antena 3 Noticias.
As a Manager, she has been at the forefront in the Corporate Communications Department for the electric multinational Iberdrola- AVANGRID, developing national and international communication and marketing campaigns. She has also collaborated with the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC, and non-profit organizations such as IBERO, American Action League in New York, among others.

Miguel Ángel Muñoz

Art Curator and Critic, ArteLatAm México

He is a poet, historian, and art critic. He studied history at the National School of Anthropology and History, and completed a master’s and doctorate in Art History at UNAM. His dedication to current artistic creation is absolute, he works in press media (El Financiero, La Jornada Semanal, Crónica) and as an art curator. He has worked with many artist like Eduardo Chillida, Rafael Canogar, José Luis Cuevas, Josep Guinovart, Roberto Matta, Antoni Tàpies, Richard Serra, Chema Madoz, Ignacio Iturria, Albert Ràfols-Casamada, Robert Rauschenberg and Luoise Bourgeois.

Mariojosé Ángeles

Art Curator, ArteLatAm Dominican Republic

Since 1997, in parallel to his professional career as an artist, he has been curating and organizing events and exhibitions, decentralizing the culture of traditional spaces in the Dominican Republic. Among which stand out, the Festival “ARTE TOTAL” in 1997, 98 and 99, held in the city of Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. From 2001 to 2005, he held the position of Cultural Affairs Attaché to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the European Community, organizing multiple art exhibitions and becoming a founding member of the Ibero-American Forum in Europe, at the Cervantes Institute in Brussels. In 2015, 2016, and 2018, he was the organizer and art curator of the group exhibitions, “DONE HERE”, in commemoration of World Art Day, at Casa de la Cultura de La Vega, Museo de Arte Sacro, and Museo del Carnaval Vegan, held in the City of La Vega, Dominican Republic. In 2017, “IMAGINACION EMPAPELADA”, Yoryi Morel Room, at the Cultural Center of Santiago, Dominican Republic. In 2019, “BYBLOS” on the occasion of World Book Day, a curatorial project held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. He is currently the art curator and organizer of the collective exhibition “MASCARILLA”, whose central theme is the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ana María Trujillo

A B.A. in Visual Arts from the School of Arts and Letters, with Museum and Curatorial Studies, Photography, and Culture Management Minors from the National University of Colombia. Ana is currently the manager of the Arts and Culture department in Chia, Colombia. She has an artistic background of more than twenty years of experience working with non-profit organizations and also, she has been an advocate of social programs against violence in Colombia. Additionally, she was a Photography Professor at La Sabana University in Colombia. As an artist, she has several international exhibitions and awards for her photographs and paintings, such as her inclusion in “The 100 Book” of the best 100 Photographs in Colombia and “The best ten Latin-American artists” exhibit in New York, 2012.

Carlos Rojas

Doctor in Latin American Cultural Studies. Professor of Aesthetics at the University of Cuenca and University of Azuay. National and international curator of several editions of the International Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador. Curator of national and local exhibitions in Ecuador. Curator for four editions of the Paris Salon of the French Alliance in Lima, Perú. Curator of the Mariano Aguilera National Hall of the Municipality of Quito, Ecuador. Curator of the July Hall of the Municipality of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Collaborator of Anaconda and El Apuntador cultural magazines. Several publications on art and aesthetics, especially three volumes of Cannibal Aesthetics.

Alexis Mendoza

Art Curator and Critic, ArteLatAm New York

Cuban-born Bronxite Alexis Mendoza is an interdisciplinary artist, independent curator, and author. Mr. Mendoza had curated projects in museums and galleries around the world in countries such as: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and United State. Co-founder and co-creator of the Bronx Latin American Art Biennial project that evolved into the New York Latin American Art Triennial (Active Chief Curator); Founding member of BxArts Factory; currently he is the Artistic Director of Tabula RaSa NYC Theater and Performance Lab, New York. Alexis Mendoza is also the author of books, such as: “Latin America, The Culture and the New Men” (2007); “Objective Reference of Painting: The work of Ismael Checo, 1986-2006” (2006); “Reflections: The Sensationalism of the Art from Cuba” (2009); “Dear Democracy” (2019). All four published by Wasteland Press; and Rigo Peralta: Revelaciones de un Universo Mistico (2010), publish by Argos Publications, Dominican Republic. Alexis Mendoza lives and works in The Bronx, New York.

Consultor Organizacional con más de veinte (20) años de experiencia en Gestión Humana, Planificación Estratégica de Proyectos y Desarrollo Organizacional en diferentes empresas nacionales e internacionales como Grupo M-Zona Franca, Sivory Punta Cana, entre otras. Miembro de la Junta Directiva de la Asociación Dominicana de Gestión Humana, fue docente en la Pontificia Universidad Católica “Madre y Maestra” (PUCMM), y en la Universidad de Educación Continua (UAPA).

Carlos Torres Machado

Director and Co-Founder

He has a BA in Contemporary Art and Communication with studies in Photography and Psychology of the University of San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador and the University of Arts from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Torres Machado is a visual artist and independent art curator who received the Award New York Regional Award in 2017 by the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series and awarded have awarded art residencies at the Brooklyn Art Space (2016) and the Bushwick Generator (2020). In 2018, he was named President of the League of United Latin American Citizens. (LULAC) for the Brooklyn Art and Culture Council, New York. LULAC.
